WE ARE… Team Boomer, a growing program of the Boomer Esiason Foundation that encourages people with cystic fibrosis to incorporate exercise into their everyday lives, provides athletes a way to raise money for CF, and offers an avenue for athletic events to contribute to our fight against CF.
WE RUN… to spread the word about the benefits of exercise for people with cystic fibrosis, to support a CF scholar-athlete specific scholarship, and to contribute to the efforts being made to find a cure for CF and to help people with CF live longer, healthier, and more fulfilling lives.
WE NEED… your help – whether you run, participate in triathlons, cycle, hike, or participate in other athletic activities.
WE ENCOURAGE… Your involvement. Pick an event. Register. Complete a Team Boomer registration form. Start training.
About Jerry Cahill, Team Boomer Founder
Diagnosed with cystic fibrosis (CF) at the age of 11, Jerry Cahill’s life was changed irrevocably. Doctors and other medical specialists prepared the Cahill family for the worst-case scenario, but Jerry was not born to a family who accepts defeat. With the support of his parents and siblings, Jerry has not only survived with cystic fibrosis, but has thrived. Jerry spent 27 years in the apparel industry, eventually becoming the Vice President of Sales for Joseph Abboud Sportswear. In 2004, due to a serious decline in his lung function, Jerry made the difficult, but health conscious decision to leave Joseph Abboud and refocus his talents as a part-time volunteer at the Boomer Esiason Foundation. Staying true to himself, Jerry became a leader at the Foundation and launched Team Boomer, among other programs.
Throughout his career in professional sports and the media, Boomer Esiason has been a committed and active participant in many charitable causes, but he began focusing on cystic fibrosis in 1993 when his son, Gunnar, was diagnosed with the disease. That same year, Esiason and his wife, Cheryl, launched the Boomer Esiason Foundation, a dynamic partnership of leaders in the medical and business communities joining with a committed core of volunteers to heighten awareness, education and quality of life for those affected by cystic fibrosis, while providing financial support to research aimed at finding a cure.
