Athlete Name: Reilly Hoagland
On winning the contest...
I am very excited to win this. It means a lot to me, for people to know all the hard work I do, to stay healthy. It was fun, watching everyone get into voting all month.
Tell us more about your hockey participation. Do you have a favorite memory?
I have been playing hockey, since I was 4 years old. I have been playing with the same group of kids, since then too.
I have two favorite memories:
- Playing for Parker’s Army Hockey this year, for our teammate Parker, who passed away from Leukemia in 2017.
- Winning our league championship in 2018.
“Exercising, for me playing hockey, helps keep me healthy.”
Tell us what motivates you the most.
Being active helps me feel better. People don’t think I’m sick even though I have CF. Exercising, for me playing hockey, helps keep me healthy.
We see you every year at our annual Run to Breathe race is Central Park. What do you like most about this race?
I like the last corner, by the finish line, where everyone is cheering for you. I like seeing Boomer every year, and that my family and friends run with us, every year.
What advice would you give to other CF athletes about the importance of exercise and how it has impacted your life?
Never give up, no matter what you are doing. Exercise really helps you feel good and helps you stay healthy.
