It is BEF policy that personal information — such as your name, postal and e-mail addresses or telephone number — is private and confidential. The personal information you provide is stored in a secure location, is accessible only by designated BEF staff, and is used only for the purposes for which you provide the information (such as your request to be added to our mailing list). If you also indicate on our site that you would like to receive information about other BEF programs or membership, your personal information will be added to the appropriate BEF mailing list. If at any time you decide to add or remove your name from BEF’s mailing list, or you need to amend your personal information, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
No Release of Information to Third Parties
We will not release personal information to third parties except to further the purpose for which you provide that information. For example, if you need a question answered by an expert outside the Foundation, or if the release of your information is required by law or is pertinent to judicial or governmental investigations or proceedings.
BEF may also release personal information to appropriate governmental authorities under the following circumstances:
- Where release is required by law (for example, a subpoena) or regulation, or is requested by a government agency conducting investigations or proceedings;
- Where our records indicate a company may be engaged in fraudulent activity or other deceptive practices that a governmental agency should be made aware of; or
- Where your communication suggests possible harm to others.
No Computer Tracking of Identifiable Information
Our computer is not set up to track, collect or distribute personal information about its visitors. It does recognize the home server of visitors, but not e-mail addresses. For example, we may know which internet service providers our visitors use, but not the names, addresses or other information about our visitors that would allow us to identify who the visitors are. The information we have access to is used only for internal purposes by BEF technical support staff. No personal information is collected. Our web sites do track information about visits to our web sites. For example, we compile statistics showing the daily number of visitors to our sites, the daily requests we receive for particular files on our web sites, and which countries those requests come from. These aggregated statistics are used internally to better provide services to the public and may also be provided to others, but again, the statistics contain no personal information and cannot be used to gather such information.
BEF’s Commitment to Online Security
Physical, electronic and managerial procedures have been employed to safeguard the security and integrity of personal information. Billing information is encrypted whenever transmitted or received online. Personal information is accessible only by staff or volunteers designated to handle online complaints or requests.
Help Us Keep Your Personal Information Accurate
