Tell us a little about yourself

My name is Connor Johnston. I am 8 years old and getting ready to go into 3rd grade. I live just outside of Socorro, NM with my parents and two older brothers Cody (13) and Cole (11). They do not have CF. I was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis when I was 10 months old. I have been in the hospital 4 times since I was diagnosed. For the most part I am pretty healthy now. My lung function is a little low and sometime that makes things a little harder, but it also makes me try harder to be the best I can be. I was also diagnosed with Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) three years ago (not related to having CF). Sometime I cannot participate in my favorite sports/activities because my platelets are too low. Swimming and running are two of the sports I can always participate in though. I love Batman, animals, playing with legos, reading, drawing, playing games, swimming, and playing any sport I can. I play in the following city leagues: basketball, soccer and swimming. I also do gymnastics and hopefully there will be a boys competition team this year at the gym that I go to. I also enjoy running in 5k’s and triathlons. I don’t think I can choose a favorite sport, I love them all!

I participated in my first triathlon last August and my first 5k in December. They were so much fun that I wanted to do a 5K for Cystic Fibrosis to raise money to find a cure. We worked together with our local running club (Socorro Striders and Riders) and had Connor’s Causes 5K for Cystic Fibrosis. It was amazing. There were close to 140 people who participated in either the 5k run or 1 mile walk and lots of awesome volunteers.

My mom says I am always positive about things and never lets having Cystic Fibrosis get in my way. My favorite saying is “Cystic Fibrosis can’t hold me back!”

"Cystic Fibrosis can't hold me back!"

Tell us what motivates you the most.
I love being active and participating in 5ks and sports. I know that in order to do these I have to do my treatments to stay healthy. I don’t mind doing them because I can listen to music and watch music videos while I do my treatments (my favorites are Toby Mac and 21 Pilots). Sometimes songs help motivate me too.

Why do you exercise?
I exercise so I can keep my lungs healthy.

What do you want to be when you grow up?
I want to be singer and song writer.

Who is your role model?
My dad is my role model because he is athletic and always teaching me new tricks in basketball.
